Week One on Keto
The good, the bad, the ugly
Once again, it’s time to drop a few pounds. And this time I’ve decided to do Keto. I want to drop ten pounds quickly. Like, in four weeks. And from what I’ve heard, Keto is the ticket. I’m seeing lots of my friends doing this diet, and evangelizing about it on Facebook. They seem happy, and they look fantastic. Maybe there’s something to this way of eating.
Trying out new diets is kind of my hobby. But I’ve always steered clear of the low-carb ones. You see, when I was a kid my mom used to go on The Grapefruit Diet. She would get to a point where she needed to drop some weight quickly, and that’s what she turned to. I don’t recall all the specifics, but I do remember it involved lots of meat and eggs. And grapefruit. Also, you could have Farmer cheese and Rhine wine — like those were the big treats. Um, no.
I tried the diet along with my mom once, and lasted about a day. Of course, I was a kid, so I wasn’t too disciplined. But still, the diet was horrid. And I’ve always associated low-carb with that plan, and how I felt doing it. Not good.
So I’ve never considered doing Atkins or South Beach, or even Keto — until last week. I was at the point — like my mom used to get — where I was just disgusted with myself (and yes, those were the words she’d use), and needed to drop some weight. Quickly.
